Commissioner changes at Postcomm
31 May 2006
The Minister for Employment Relations and Postal Services, Jim Fitzpatrick, has agreed to the appointment of Richard Moriarty as a Postcomm Commissioner. Mr Moriarty, who was recently promoted to deputy chief executive of Postcomm, has been appointed for two years from the beginning of May.
“Richard’s appointment will strengthen the Commission as we enter the transition to a new regulatory agenda following agreement on Royal Mail’s price control for 2006-10,” said Postcomm chairman, Nigel Stapleton. “We are delighted the Minister has recognised Richard’s deep knowledge of regulatory issues and the mail industry, by allowing a second member of the executive team to join the Commission.” Postcomm’s chief executive Sarah Chambers is already a Commissioner.
The Minister has also agreed to extend the appointment of another Postcomm Commissioner, Janet Lewis-Jones, to October this year. Her term had been due to end this month.
Ms Lewis-Jones and Robin Aaronson – both of whom have been Commissioners since Postcomm was created – will retire from the Commission at the end of October. An announcement regarding their replacements will be made in the near future.
