Postcomm extends competition consultation deadline to 12 April

13 March 2002

Postcomm today extended the date for replies to its consultation on the introduction of competition into postal services.

The extension, to 12 April, follows requests from the Communications Workers Union, Consignia and MPs for more time. The original six-week consultation period was due to finish on 15 March.

Graham Corbett, Chairman of Postcomm said:

“Both Consignia and the CWU have asked for more time to finalise their responses to us. Both are key stakeholders. In line with our commitment to
ensuring that our proposals do not destabilise the postal market, we will want to take full account of all the issues they wish to raise. We have also had requests from MPs for an extension, and we are happy to agree to this. The proposals out for consultation remain unchanged.”

The extension means that Postcomm’s decision document will be issued in May, not April as originally planned.

Notes for editors

Postcomm published its proposals for a staged opening of the UK postal services market to competition on 31 January.
