Postcomm consults on an interim licence for TPG UK Ltd
25 July 2002
Postcomm today began consultation on the proposed issue of a short-term postal licence to TPG Post UK Ltd, a subsidiary of TPG NV, the Dutch postal operator.
TPG Post UK is seeking a licence to provide bulk mail and consolidation services for the collection, conveyance and delivery of mail from businesses to households. If granted, the licence would limit the number of items to be carried to 20 million a year – about one quarter of the items Royal Mail handles in a day.
Notes for Editors
Interim licences normally last for 12 months. In this instance TPG Post UK has said it will apply for a standard licence – which lasts a minimum of seven years – when these become available. Standard licences will not come into effect before 1 January 2003.
The deadline for responses to the consultation is 27 August 2002.
